What, you may ask, is the iPad dance? Well, it’s when you have your iPad (or any tablet) in your lap, and a muscle in your leg decides to go crazy and spasm. A muscle just above my right knee has been going nuts since Friday morning. If I’m not doing anything, it will jump and twitch. It stops whenever I get up and do something, but as soon as I sit down, it’ll start back up again. It doesn’t hurt, it just feel strange.
I was on the couch last night with my iPad, and it was going crazy. The iPad was dancing, and I just started laughing. It was comical. So, that’s how you do the iPad dance. Hehehe.
I completed my workout yesterday, and I’ve already gotten today’s workout done also. Yesterday I did my strength training as well as a mile on the elliptical. I again met my goal of doing it in 300 revolution chunks. The last 300 chunk Friday was a bit rough, but I pushed through. Then I did the last 100 with no problem. Today’s mile was pretty strong, which surprised me. I thought I might get tired around the 900 rev mark. But I didn’t tire until the last 300 chunk again.
Here are Friday and Saturday’s stats.
Friday:
Strength Training:
Regular Routine
Cardio - Elliptical:
Distance - 1 mile
Revolutions - 1600
Resistance Level - 1
Endurance - Good. Stopped at 300, 600, 900, 1200, and 1500 revs.
Injury - None
Time - 31:58
Saturday:
Cardio - Elliptical:
Distance - 1 Mile
Revolutions - 1600
Resistance Level - 1
Endurance - Good. Stopped at 300, 600, 900, 1200, and 1500 revs.
Injury - None
Time - 32:10
I had a minor distraction today with the elliptical. Right before I was going to get on, Abby decided to hop in my lap. She didn’t stay long, but I couldn’t say no. I actually took a picture of her since my iPod was sitting right there. Could you say no to a face this cute?
I think not. But as soon as she got down, I got busy. She decided to take a nap on the couch while I did my thing. She’s still snoozing, and it’s been a few hours. Ah, to be a cat. Keep moving.

Exercise Progress...And My "Problem"
It has been way too long since my last update here. It seems like that's how I've started the last few entries. Been a long time, but things are still improving and moving in the right direction (well, other than the scale). Exercise? Awesome. Writing? Still going well. Food? Meh. Scale movement? Wrong way.
First off, exercise. I'm making quite a lot of progress with my routines. My strength training is still the same, but it is getting a tiny bit easier. I'm still using the 10 pound weights and doing one set of 15 for each exercise. The lying triceps extensions are getting a bit easier, as long as I remember to do them first, instead of last. I'm not to the point yet where I feel comfortable doing more than one set. It is getting easier though. I don't feel like my arms are going to fall off after I'm done anymore.
I'm still not doing push ups. I nixed those from my routine a while back because they put way too much pressure on my wrists. My left wrist specifically. Right now I don't have any aches and pains in my left wrist anymore, but I don't want to do push up quite yet. I don't know if I'll add them back in at all or not. I hate push ups. They're my least favorite exercise. I'd rather do more chest press exercises with my weights than do push ups. Push ups are evil.
Speaking of aches and pains. I am now pain free as far as my left ankle goes. It was weird. A few weeks ago I was still having twinges here and there. About two or three weeks ago, I actually took a full week off from my elliptical because it hurt so bad. Got back on and it was OK. Had a twinge here and there, but it was mostly fine. Now? I don't feel any discomfort at all. It was there one day, and gone the next. I'm not even using my ice pack or heating pad anymore. No more Icy Hot either. I think what helped it to get better was lots and lots of stretching. Stretching my heel cord and hamstring in particular.
I bought a handy dandy gizmo a few months ago which I give all the credit to. I used to see this thing every time I was on an airplane looking through the Sky Mall magazine. I always thought about getting one. Well, I finally did. And I'm glad. I've always had a hard time stretching my heel cords. But this gizmo makes it a lot easier. Just put your foot on it with your heel against the back support and lean into it. I think a “normal” person can flex their foot to make their heel go down naturally, and I can sort of do it with my right foot. But with my left, I need to bend at the waist to get the stretch I need. My left heel cord is so tight, that foot is hard to move without help.
Seeing as I have no more pain in my left ankle, I'm stepping up my elliptical routine. I'm up to doing one mile three days a week, and a half mile three days a week. On the half mile days, I'm increasing the resistance to level 2. And my one mile days are getting easier and a little bit faster. I have had to make a few changes though.
The display screen on my elliptical is acting up a bit. I'm having to change the batteries every other week. Last time I changed them, it didn't seem to help, the screen was still flickering. It's very strange. Might be a loose connection or something. The “poles” that you hang on to as you're moving have a tendency to bang from side to side every now and then. Hard. And if the batteries are almost dead, one good whack can reset it. It's now starting to do that even with fresh batteries. So, I've gotten into the habit of setting a timer as a backup. Plus, I pretty much listen to the same CD every time I'm on it, so I know which song is playing when I normally finish my mile.
I hate to say it, but I think I've got a little bit of an obsessive compulsive problem in terms of mileage. When my screen resets I flip out if I don't know how far I've gone. I can take a guess, but I know it's not exactly right. So, I'm not focusing on mileage anymore, at least not as strictly as I was. I'm going for time. I normally do one mile in 37 to 38 minutes. I'm now going for 40 minutes. Yesterday I did 1.1 mile in 40.5. See? I couldn't stop at 40 because I was SO close to the next .1 mile. I had to continue. Need to work on that little “problem”. I have a little dialogue in my head that goes like this:
Sane Tee: OK, 40 minutes is up. You can stop now.
Insane Tee: I have 40 more revolutions until the next .1 mile. I can make it.
Sane Tee: Just stop and say you did 1.1 mile. It's close enough.
Insane Tee: But it's NOT exact.
And if I go one or two revolutions passed the mark? I always say “Oops”. So, I've got a bit of a problem. I'm dealing with it though. So, focusing on time will make me stop obsessing, especially if my screen resets. I'll be forced to estimate my distance at the point.
This entry is getting a bit long, so I'll stop for now. I'll cover the food and writing topics at another time. I've also got two new types of tea from Teavana I need to review. I've already had one of them, and all I can say is yum!
Stay cool everyone. Today is the first day of summer, so drink plenty of water. So far the temperatures here in the desert haven't been too horrible. We reached 109 a few weeks ago, but it's been just over 100 the rest of the time. High is usually 102 to 105. We had a week where we had a high of 109 to a high of 85. It was crazy.
Keep moving!

Random Update
It's been a bit longer than I'd like since my last entry here. I still haven't gotten a post schedule down for this blog. I really should set a schedule, but I never seem to be able to stick with it.
My first week back on my elliptical went very well. I only did one tenth of a mile three days last week, but that was my plan. Best to start slow, and build up from there. This week, I'm up to .2 mile. It's actually getting easier, as far as endurance. I really wanted to keep going yesterday, once I hit the .2 mark. I really thought about it. But I decided to stick with the plan and only go the .2. I may go for .3 tomorrow though.
My ankle is playing mind games on me. When I first start, it's really stiff, and I almost convince myself to stop. But it eventually loosens up and feels great. The first couple of days, I kept thinking I felt a twinge here or there. I really do think it was my mind playing tricks on me. It doesn't hurt at all, and I just tell myself to keep going.
Seems as though Wednesdays are my slack off days. I did do my workout, but it took me forever to get it all done. I honestly don't know why. I got into my workout clothes around 8:15, and finished at around 10:30. It should not have taken me that long. I didn't have that many bathroom breaks. I did do the pilates workout, and that adds about five minutes. Then after my workout, I got caught up on Biggest Loser. And that also took forever to finish. I made lunch about halfway through it. The husband got back from work, so I turned it off, and we watched the show Justified (on FX). When I finally finished Loser, it was about 5 PM.
I got absolutely no writing done, but that's OK, I don't have any pending assignments at the moment. I planned on writing a blog here yesterday, but time got away. Also managed to get two loads of laundry done, so that's something.
So, today, I'm getting busy. It's an early work day for my husband (he was actually awake by 4:45 AM and gone by the time I got up at 6 AM). I should have gotten up when he did, but that's too early. Crazy early.
Sorry this post is so boring. I plan on addressing a question from Tina's blog very soon.
Need to start getting my workouts done earlier, the desert heat is coming back soon, and it will be 120 before you know it. Supposed to be 90 today. Time to break out the shorts. Bah.
Have a good one.

Strange Dream And Work Outs
Have you ever dreamed about working out? Last night, I had a dream that I was at someone's house (looked like a really big gym, but in a residence) taking a strength training class. The instructor told us to pick up a dumbbell, and hold it out in front of us. I picked one up, and was told it wasn't long enough. Everyone else had two hands on the weight, and I only had room for one hand. And that's really all I remember, other than I felt very out of place, and embarrassed for doing the exercise wrong.
Why did I dream that? No idea. Maybe it was because I was sort of nervous about getting on my elliptical today. Maybe it's because I've been thinking about upping my weights, who knows? But I don't remember ever dreaming about working out before.
As far as doing an exercise “wrong”, I'm sure I do plenty of exercise moves without proper form. Mainly the manly pushups. I don't go down to the floor nearly as much as I should. If I go any lower than I do, my arms will collapse, and I'll fall on my face (and possibly squish my cat Ashley in the process). I basically hold a plank position and lower myself about an inch at most and push back up. It's not a “real” pushup, but it's my version of a real one. I also tend to go faster than I should with certain exercises, like seated leg extensions. I need to concentrate on going slower with those.
Anyway, just a random dream last night. As for my workout this morning, I did well. Struggled a bit on my second set of front lateral raises. Didn't raise the dumbbells as high as I normally do, but I still managed to do a second set of 15.
And as for my elliptical? I did 1/10 of a mile in not quite four minutes. And the best part? No pain at all in my ankle. I actually wanted to go another 1/10, buy mt legs were tired. It's sad. I've been off my elliptical since the end of December, and my legs have lost all of that strength. My endurance was OK, but the fronts of my legs were dead. It would be so nice to be able to keep strength and endurance while recovering from an injury. I know it will be a while before I hit that 1 mile goal again. But it will happen.
The plan for this week is to do another 1/10 of a mile on Wednesday and Friday. Then next Monday go for .2 miles. And increase my mileage by .2 every week. And STOP if I feel any funkiness in my ankle (or other areas). During that 1/10 of a mile, I burned off 33 calories. Hehehe. What is that? Like three M&M's? At least it's something though. I am very happy that I felt no discomfort at all. I was somewhat anxious about it. I kept thinking after 30 seconds it would start to ache, but it never did.
I can relax now, and focus on moving forward. Positive thinking. No more injuries. I want to go a mile again, NOW, but I know that's not a very smart thing. Not only would my ankle probably flare up, I'd most likely die from exhaustion. Either that, or the muscles in the fronts of my legs would explode. Hehehe. So, slow and easy is the key.
As for the rest of my day, I have some serious vacuuming to do. The kind that involves moving furniture and sprinkling carpet freshener over it. When you have three cats, that's necessary from time to time.
What are your plans this week?

Set Up A New "Work" Schedule For Myself
The other day I had the idea of setting up some sort of "work" schedule. I tend to procrastinate when it comes to getting any writing done. I read e-mail and blogs, play on FaceBook and Twitter, and I never get any actual writing done.
I've finally set up a schedule and it seems to be working so far. The hours of "work" are sort of random depending on the day. I plan to exercise Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and don't plan to write until 10 AM. Then Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday I plan to write in the evenings for a few hours while my husband has a scheduled event in World of Warcraft. I plan on taking Saturdays off entirely, but I may write here or there anyway.
This is all just a tentative schedule. If it works, great, if I make tweaks here and there, fine. Just as long as I get some sort of writing done most days of the week. I'll be happy with that. So far today, I've gotten an article for a ghost writing site done, and I finally got my workout page set up here on Blogger.
I've got an hour before I eat lunch, and I plan of editing some articles for eHow, and I'll upload those to that site probably later this evening. So yeah, the schedule will work pretty well I think. As long as I resist the temptation to read blogs. That's my biggest time sink at the moment. I love reading other people's blogs, and seeing what they're up to.
Tomorrow is Friday, and I intend to get back into my exercise routine. I plan on doing my normal workout routine tomorrow. I'll see how close I come to my scheduled 10 AM writing date. I have a feeling I'll be early, which is fine. Once I get back on my elliptical, that 10 AM deadline will be harder to make. But make it I will.
Do you all have a set schedule you keep for getting things done? How flexible are you with it? Do you have any time sinks like FaceBook or blog reading that get in the way?

House Cleaning Workout
Today I did not do my usual workout routine. But I did get a workout. Between squatting to get laundry out of the dryer, pushing and pulling the vacuum cleaner and scrubbing the dog in the bath tub I managed to work out several parts of my body.
I was in a major cleaning mood this morning and I took advantage of it. I first managed to get the dog corralled in the bathroom, a major feat all on its own. George is a Chinese Crested, the kind with fur thank you, and is around ten to twelve pounds I'd guess. The first couple of times that I bathed him it was no problem getting him in the bathroom. Now, he's wise to my motives. I call him in and he starts cowering and shaking, the poor thing. So, I get him in, telling him it will only take five to ten minutes to get him all sudsy and clean again, but he gives me the pitiful puppy dog look. I lift him in and turn the water on. He behaves this time and doesn't manage to jump out like he did last time. Midway though, my lower back is aching from bending over the tub. My arms though are getting a good workout by the rub-a-dub-dubbing of the pup.
Now comes the fun part. Getting George out of the tub and trying to contain his spray of water. He has a lot of fur, a lot, and it holds a lot more water than you'd think. He recently got a trim in April I believe but he still has a lot a fur. I went through three bath towels getting him somewhat dry before letting him unleash his pent up energy through the rest of the house. I then use another two bath towels to mop up the water on the floor, toilet and walls...yes, walls. The little dog can shake I tell you. And come to think of it, I somehow managed not to get soaked.
Think that's the end of the dog washing? Nope. I don't want him to track water all over the tile in the hall and kitchen area, so I bring him into the bedroom. He loves the bedroom. Why? Because our three cats hide out there. So I let him in, and warn the cats with a "look out kitties, here he comes!" and he zooms right in. I get him over to my hair dryer and start on the long drying process. It takes me longer to dry his fur than it does to dry my hair. Trying to keep him still and in one place while drying him works the muscles too. So I hooked a finger in his collar (probably not too safe to do, for fear of attaining a broken finger) and went to business. Not sure how much time has past, but between kneeling on the tile bathroom floor and then kneeling on the bedroom floor, my legs were tired. I do a sort of "genie sit"

while drying him off so that works the fronts of my thighs.
So, with the dog mostly dry I send him out of the room, give him a treat for behaving fairly well and move on to the next task. Laundry. With most of my bath towels were used up having quite a few already in the hamper, I haul the load into the laundry room and dump them in. After I of course put the blanket that was in the washer into the dryer. Now I can relax right? Nope. Out to the kitchen I go to empty the dish washer and reload the sucker. I got balance practice in by putting away glasses and dishes on the upper shelves. Side bends were done loading dishes into the washer, and a major test in balance was achieved when putting pans on the tippy tippy top shelf of the pantry. Success.Thank goodness for the chair behind me in case I fell over.
I had a bit of a break by having lunch and watching some news. Then came time to do some squats with the dryer. Got the blanket out and it was still not quite dry so I hung it up on my elliptical (sad to see it used for a drying rack at the moment), and put the huge load of towels into the dryer. Next I hauled Ashley's (our second cat, about 10 years old) makeshift bed (my old comforter from college) and loaded it in.
Since her bed was now in the washer, I decided to give our bedroom a thorough vacuuming. I love my vacuum.

It gets dirt and fur and sand that others just don't get. I was going to sprinkle the floor with carpet freshener powder and vacuum the room a second time, but my husband got back from work. So that will have to wait until tomorrow or whenever. The carpet is starting to get that "cat" odor to it again. So after pushing and pulling the vacuum around, I was finally done. I went from about 9 AM to 1 PM non stop, other than lunch which was all of ten minutes.
And as I was writing this post, our youngest cat Abby, about 8 years old, decided to get sick on one the covers that covers the couch. So I hauled that sucker into the washer and it is now being cleaned. So with a slight headache, I am tired, but I feel very accomplished. I may not have gotten my traditional workout in, but it sure feels like it. And to all you moms out there that do this, or similar activities every day, my hat is off to you!
